vestiges heritage project
community + memory + archive= IMAGINATION
Vestiges Heritage preservation Project is a hybrid folk arts education convening for cultural practitioners and community members interested in learning, exploring and engaging with practical methods of heritage preservation and cultural production. The quarterly gatherings are designed to educate inter-generational audiences on the importance and accessibility of resources to help preserve familial cultural treasures, identity formation technologies and deepen the individual and collective relationship with the environment and its correlation to the social // cultural sciences
Each Lab will invite cultural practitioners who share an explicit interest in the presentation and preservation of afro-Atlantic heritage technologies. The lab allows room for practitioners to share current areas of inquiry and creative research for the sake of cross pollination and collective memory interpretation.
At its core the lab sets out to experiment with various methods of presenting archival data to inter-generational audiences for collective creative reinterpretation.
The memory lab advocates for the decolonization of archive by decentralizing western standards and uplifting the pantheon of traditional and non traditional notions of archive/memory preservation and the keep keeping
As descendants of the diaspora memory is the data-base that connects us across the time-space-spirit continuum. how do we utilize the ancestral archives of cultural technologies like movement photography creative writing--glyph– sigils food ways, social games, material objects --as pathways to recalling. As methods of retrieving new perspectives, titillating new memories and associations with imagination and time.
